Need something to do this weekend besides going to see Wonder Woman again? Can we interest you in Madmanfest Brisbane? Perhaps you are looking for something to see at the Sydney Film Festival? Or maybe some Nerdlesque in Adelaide? Look no further!

1. Queensland

Wednesday

Continuing with the MCU marathon at GOMA to go with the Marvel exhibition in Brisbane you can catch a screening of Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers both playing at GOMA’s cinema on Wednesday night.

Thursday

In cinemas across the country, the start of Universal’s Dark Universe begins with The Mummy. We were a little on the fence about this one until the ‘Paint It Black’ trailer + combined Universe announcement but now this is definitely on our watch list.

And also in cinemas but in limited release, Resident Evil: Vendetta is the 3rd CGI RE movie and you can only catch it in Event Cinemas on Thursday (8th of June) and Monday (12th of June). So if you are a big Resident Evil fan you might want to find out where it’s playing near you and grab some tickets.

If you aren’t much for movies but love drinking and DnD then good news for your Thursdays with Drinking & Dragons establishing their second home at Brisbane‘s La Bomba Cafe. They will be hosting every Thursday for you to get your +1 to beer on.

Also on Thursday in Brisbane‘s Shady Palms in Stones Corner Man vs Bear Trivia is hosting a Breaking Bad Trivia night! Like all Man vs Bear events, tickets go fast so don’t delay on getting some if you are interested!

Friday

In the House wraps up its season with vintage Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands. If you are a lover of all things Tim Burton and have never seen this movie then what have you been doing with your life? It’s playing at Event Cinemas across the country this Friday only.

After being held hostage by hackers the new season of Orange is the New Black is out on Netflix and Foxtel on Friday (presuming you have already finished the new season of House of Cards that came out on Tuesday). We actually haven’t gotten around to binge watching this yet but after Ruby Rose in John Wick 2 it has moved up our priority list.

If you prefer your Friday night to be a bit more on the classic side GOMA in Brisbane are screening the 1979 Nosferatu the Vampyre. It might not be the 1922 original, but it is the PG-rated 1979 tribute to the original.

Saturday

Anime lovers of Brisbane will be busy with the first ever Brisbane Madman Festival this Saturday and Sunday. This event has already kicked off for the year in other states but it will be good to see what it has to offer for Brisbane!

And if one day of Madman Brisbane was not enough you can kick on to the after-party at Netherworld Saturday night!

For History buff’s Brisbane‘s Fort Lytton is having its annual History Alive event. It’s a kid-friendly event on both Saturday and Sunday with over 400 re-enactors! Grab your tickets and find out more from the official site.

Alternatively, if you need some LEGO on your Saturday, BrisBricks is putting on their Pine Rivers event in Brisbane’s North. Go to support a charity or to check out the awesome large scale LEGO sets but either way, make sure you book tickets ahead.

Sunday

The MCU marathon at Brisbane‘s GOMA continues with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World playing back to back if you want to grab tickets (or bought the deluxe season pass for the Marvel exhibition)

And wrapping up at the Brisbane Madman Festival you can catch the new film in the Black Butler franchise, Black Butler: Book Of The Atlantic for its Australian premiere. Anyone can grab a ticket to go, not just those attending the Anime Festival, but be honest… you are probably going anyway.

*Update* If you want to try something new in tabletop gaming on Sunday, Sunday Studios are trialling out their new game Squirrel Wars at Comic Empire in Brisbane. There are MA15+ and kid friendly editions to trial so cue the getting nuts puns.

And lastly for your Sunday, Orphan Black returns for its final season and it’s airing on SBS Viceland. Need to remember what happened at the end of last season? You can always binge watch the first four seasons via Netflix.

2. New South Wales & ACT

Wednesday

The Sydney Film Festival starts on Wednesday and with so many cinemas across Sydney playing so many new and old films we thought you might want to start off with a classic. An American Werewolf in London is playing at the Dendy in Newtown, tickets are available via the SFF site or Dendy directly.

Following last week’s Star Trek Trivia, Empire Coffee in Newcastle is returning to its roots with Star Wars Trivia on Friday! Prizes are still on offer if you know your DLT-12 from your TK-421 or T-16!

Saturday

Reload in Canberra is doing something different on Saturday and you can join in. If you have a Google Cardboard VR you can watch the 360 degree live stream coming live from the venue across YouTube! That’s right, you can party in your PJs and never leave the house!

*Update* If you are near Young (or fancy a drive from Canberra) the 3rd Annual Geek Out Convention is on! This one day con gives you all the goodness without having to trek to a capital city, plus we believe there is a special guest.

Miss out on the previous Pokemon TCG & VGC comps? If you are in Sydney on Saturday or Sunday you can get in on the first of 3 ESL Australia’s regional comps (the next 2 being Auckland and Perth). There are limits on seats so if you are a master of either card or video game then bring your system or legal deck and register to play.

Also through ESL Australia on Saturday but not limited to Sydney, the Go4RocketLeague Oceania May 2017 Finals are being held. Even if you didn’t qualify to play you can still watch via ESL Australia’s stream.

Sunday

If you are looking for that hard to find action figure that is missing from your collection the Hornsby CollectorMania Toy & Hobby Fair is on in Sydney. It’s only $5 entry so worth it for a hunting down your unicorns or just a Sunday browse.

Near Geelong? Head to the Geelong Gamer Convention for a healthly dose of gaming and pop culture. This mini-con is on for one day only so grab a ticket and dust off your best gaming cosplay.

If you are looking for something to do on a cold Saturday night in Melbourne you can always head to the Backlot Cinema for a screening of Nightmare on Elm St 3. Tickets are still available and there are some prizes to be won and really is there anything better than hot popcorn on a cold night?

If you missed Bazinga Burlesque at the Adelaide Fringe Festival they have returned from their tour of the UK for this show from Saturday until the 16th of June. Obviously for more mature audiences but if you prefer your Burlesque more Nerdlesque you will enjoy this. Perth‘s console museum and retro gaming centre the Nostalgia Box, has found a temporary new home and it seems like a good excuse to throw a party! Plenty of big name local artists are playing as well as an excuse for some drinks and retro gaming seems like a pretty good use of your Friday night.
