Nintendo reveals Fire Emblem Echoes Season Pass Pricing

Nintendo has revealed stunning new details about the Season Pass for the latest title in its long-running handheld strategy franchise, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

DLC to be released for Fire Emblem Echoes include new maps, character classes, story content and items. These individual DLC packs, that can be purchased individually or as a Season Pass, include:

  • Fledgling Warriors Pack – Includes a new dungeon (The Astral Temple) and two new maps, ideal for players playing through the first half of the game (May 20th)
  • Undaunted Heroes Pack – Includes a new dungeon (The Inner Sanctum) and two new maps suitable for more seasoned players (May 25th)
  • Lost Altars Pack – Includes new dungeons which unlock new exclusive character classes (May 25th)
  • Rise of the Deliverance Pack – Contains brand new story content in a special prologue chapter set before the events of Fire Emblem Echoes (June 1st)

Cipher Companions Pack is a fifth piece of DLC which includes some new heroes from Fire Emblem Cipher, the popular Japanese trading card game but no confirmed release date has been made available. With each DLC ranging from $12.00AUD to $22.50 what is more interesting is the Season Pass pricing.

Whilst Nintendo has been tip-toeing steadily into the waters of the Season Pass method of DLC distribution.  As we have already seen Season Passes for recent releases such as Hyrule Warriors and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it is rare that the cost of the season pass costs more than the base game.

Coming in at $67.50AUD/$74.25NZD (more than the base game), it is an unusual pricing choice for a Season Pass on any platform. While DLC is not new for the Fire Emblem franchise with the DLC being a part of the franchise since 2013’s Fire Emblem Awakening, it interesting that the price of the total DLC code surpasses the purchase price of the main game. However, the season pass without question is cheaper than purchasing each piece of DLC individually.

Regardless of purchasing this paid DLC or not, Nintendo are releasing some free DLC to all players on the 20th of May, which is the same day as a special EB Games exclusive edition ($99.95 AUD) + Alm & Celica Amiibos are released.
