Announced today, Nintendo Australia revealed the latest addition to their DS lineup in the form of the 2DS XL for anyone who feels they don’t have enough handheld Nintendo goodness in their lives.
Aiming for fans of the DS line the new system fits between the existing 2DS and the 3DS XL. Following the same clamshell design the new system will be capable of playing both 2DS and 3DS games (in a 2D format only, hence the name). The new console is promised to have the same battery life as the 3DS as well as NFC support for your growing Amiibo collection.
Coming in Orange and Turquoise shells, the new units are being targetted for June 15 release in Australia & New Zealand with a local recommended retail price of $195.95 AUD.
In the same release, Nintendo also announced several games for the 3DS platform both new & re-release as part of the Nintendo Select line. This does tell us that despite the success of the Switch, Nintendo is still committed to the DS fanbase.
These games include:
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (May 11)
- Luigi’s Mansion 2 (May 11)
- Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. (May 11)
- Paper Mario: Sticker Star (May 11)
- Hey! PIKMIN (July 29)
- Miitopia (July 29)
All titles released on May 11 will be as Nintendo Select titles with an expected RRP of $29.95 AUD. The later new release titles pricing is not yet available.
