With school holidays still on in most states it looks like we are keeping things quiet on the more adult front. We are sure it won’t last for long but we aren’t going to leave you hanging! Here is everything happening across Australia this week.

1. Queensland

Wednesday

In the lead up to Star Wars Day at the Toowoomba Library you can get in the mood with a single issue comics sale this Wednesday. The event will run most of the day but if you have been on the look out for that missing issue in your collection maybe get there early to find it (or find someone who can).

Del Toro’s next big screen awesomeness, Shape of Water, isnt due in cinemas across Australia until next Thursday but this week you can get to special advanced screenings at Dendy Cooperoo and Portside in Brisbane. The screenings are part of the Dendy Dames program so if you want to get a sneak peak with your lady friends this is for you.

Have you always wondered if you can lift up your magic sword and call upon the Power of Greyskull? No? Well maybe try the next best thing with foam weaponry as the LARP Brisbane group returns for 2018. Welcoming both old hands and new players, maybe just check the rules first before bringing that broadsword you got for Christmas.

Saturday

Happy Slideapalooza Brisbane! From this Saturday until the 21st the longest waterside in Australia is in Brisbane, and it’s awesome. With one slide at over 1 km long you will want to grab some tickets if you haven’t already.

It’s Star Wars Day at the Toowoomba Library! Yes start your 2018 right and join others celebrating the awesomess of Star Wars at this one day event with mini market on the green! It’s happening all day this Saturday.

Need a metric ton of LEGO in a hurry? Brick Resales is having another of its massive swap meets in Brisbane this Saturday! With rare sets from other collectors maybe you can finally get yourself that huge limited release Millennium Falcon

Looking to get into Cosplay or perhaps some form of Superhero’ing/Supervillian’y? Lean how to make your own smart clothing this weekend. Learn how to work with e-fabric components and ardiunos but make sure you book your spot first!

Sunday

Need to watch Thor Ragnarok again? Of course you do and the best way is to watch it under the watchful gaze of Heimdall this Sunday in Brisbane at the Moonlight Cinemas under the stars. Tickets are still available but why not go all out and get the deluxe seating, you know you want to.

Two-Bit Cinema Club returns for 2018 with Swayze double feature of Roadhouse and Point Break this Sunday in Brisbane. Hosted by Ben McLean make sure you get your Video Club membership stamped or sign up for the club to get the best sneaky deals during the screenings.

2. New South Wales & ACT

Wednesday

New year means new gaming tournys and at Club Burwood in Sydney this Saturday you can choose your poison with Street Fighter or Smash Bros to dominate. Signups close at 11am with the double eliminations running all day so maybe get up early to do your pre-game eye of the tiger montage.

Sunday

If you can dodge a wrench then you are definitely wanting to get to the Australian Dodgeball League Finals this Sunday in Sydney. With the states going head to head you might not see Average Joes but it might inspire you for next season.

3. Victoria & Tasmania

Wednesday

LEGO Star Wars Days continue at the Melbourne LEGO Activity Centre this week in Melbourne. And while there may not be any Adults Only Nights planed it doesn’t stop you from checking it out this month.

Thursday

Head down to South Wharf this Thursday in Melbourne for the Health Ledger cult classic 10 Things I Hate About You. With only one session this month and another chance not planned to February grab your tickets now to catch this classic under the stars at this pop up cinema.

Friday

Are you the one with the Force? Or looking for someone who is? The BETA Bar is holding it’s first Star Wars Singles night this Friday in Melbourne. You don’t have to be single to enjoy all the drinks and Star Wars themed cosplay, but you may want to consider being more Wedge than Han in your costume choice.

We love us some VR and you can catch Viri VR a VR Pop-Up in Melbourne this Friday night. This is a preview event so not your only chance but if you love to check out things first you may want to work this into your schedule.

Kick off 2018 with the best gaming as Couch Warriors and Nekocards team up this Friday. Mixing up the usual fortnightly Smash Tournament this week with some TCG Nekocard based gaming but don’t worry you can still get your tourny on in Melbourne.

Need a movie about Ladybeard, Canadian J-Pop and Japans obsession with all the above? Event Cinemas in Perth is playing Big In Japan as supported by Supanova this Thursday. This is a very limited session but if you are a fan of cult pop culture you probably already have a ticket.

Friday

It’s just a jump to the left for you to do the time warp again with the Rocky Horror screening in Perth. With proceeds going to Telethon Kids you can take your choice of packages for this interactive screening this Friday.
