Need a week to catch your breath? Seems like a great time to maybe book a Zero Latency session or maybe head to Containment’s massive escape room… that is, if you aren’t too busy heading to Steampunk Pirate Balls or Deza-Con IV this weekend! Here is everything happening across Australia this week!

1. Queensland

Wednesday

Starting this Wednesday and running until the end of the month in BrisbaneContainment takes over the Powerhouse and by take over we mean it. Containment is a multi-story zombie escape room at the Powerhouse for a limited time only! Catch our Creator Spotlight with the team behind the scenes next week!

Thursday

Disaster movies are an acquired taste where Hollywood gives us a taste of living through a natural disaster, but if a volcano or earthquake isn’t enough to scratch your disaster porn itch then what about a world wide storm? Geostorm is the latest in over the top disaster films and it hits cinemas across Australia this Thursday.

Indie Game Night IV happens this Thursday at Netherworld in Brisbane, bringing you a taste of some of the best local game developers for you to try! This week? Hellevator, Shadows on Broadway, Graviators and our favourite that just went into open Beta – Think of the Children!

Friday

Fans of ominous string sections on the Gold Coast will want to grab tickets to see Jaws as part of the Niche 230 Festival this Friday night. Because when you live near a beach you really want to watch movies about killer sharks.

Have you booked in for Zero Latency yet? It opens this Friday in Brisbane and by the time you read this there is probably already a wait list! Need a reason to go check it out like we did earlier this week? Read the Creator Spotlight interview we did last week!

Looking for a use for your near encyclopedic knowledge of the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror? Maybe this Friday in Brisbane is your time to shine with Treehouse of Horror Trivia at the Brightside. Oh, and on the drinks menu? Flaming Moe’s.

Saturday

If you are are near Cardwell in North Queensland then dust off your best Tin Foil hat for the Cardwell UFO festival this Saturday. Moved from June this event happens annually for all the Fox Mulders out there who want to believe.

You know we can’t go past a good Burgerpalooza and this Saturday in Brisbane you can head to the Triffd for Burgerfest! You can try your favourite Brisbane based burger joints all in one place and decide which is the best, so you may want to wear some stretchy pants.

Sunday

Brisbane‘s Netherworld jumps back to it’s Two-Bit Cinema Club gold with a Universal Monsters classic double on the back of their Universal Monster Pinball comp. On the ticket this Sunday? Dracula’s Dead and Loving it and Young Frankenstein comedy double.

2. New South Wales & ACT

Deza-Con returns to Melbourne this Saturday! This annual con brings you the best of pop culture in a single day sized helping in Narra Warren. If you are looking for something to tie you over til PAX next week this is the con for you!

This Saturday in Hobart the Hobart Geek Market returns! This market happens all day and is your best place to find local creators and hard to find items from local vendors.

The Luna Leederville is bringing back it’s full movie experience screenings for Ghostbusters this Sunday in Perth.
