Happy Cosfriday, cosplay fans!
We’re back again with a local Brisbane cosplayer – Lingonberry Cosplay.
Check out her work below and be sure to give her a follow on social media!
What’s your name & how old are you? Lina, 20
How long have you been cosplaying? The fir st con I went to in cosplay was in 2013, but it’s only the last two years that I’ve been more active in the community.
What inspired you to start cosplaying? I have been a part of a theatre troupe since middle school, I loved acting and arts, but something was always missing. It wasn’t exactly easy being that one fat nerdy girl in school either. Cosplay turned out to be an escape and a great way to bring everything that I love together and unleash the creativity and the geek all at once.
What was your First Cosplay? Does a Star Trek uniform count?
What is your most recent cosplay? Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians.
What cosplays are you currently working on? Anna Valerious from Van Helsing and a new version of Poison Ivy.
Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? There’s a lot of wonderful, incredibly skilled cosplayers who I look up to, and I could spend hours reciting everyone’s names… Let’s cheat a little bit and do it this way. These are the people, without whom I probably wouldn’t have started cosplay again:
Quite honestly, I probably would’ve quit again if it wasn’t for her. She is always there for me to support me when I ‘m not feeling good enough, and in minutes she makes me feel like I could take the whole world on. Our journeys may have started separate, but from now on we’re gonna go on right next to each other, in cosplay and in life.
Star Scribe Works
Sarah is the wizard of costume recycling and opportunistic crafting who taught me that things can be perfect and beautiful even while having flaws.
Part Time Hero Props
An amazing guy, a cosplayer and a prop maker, Shaun is always there to help with a “how the hell do I fix this?!” costume emergency, offer advice or kick my ass into action when it needs it.
Who else do you want to cosplay? There are a lot of fandoms and characters I like. However, my build pretty much means all the bodysuit-clad superheroines are off the table. That’s not going to stop me though, since I prefer re-inventing character designs and adding something more specifically “me” into everything. My latest obsession with Overwatch is demanding I do something about it, so I’m probably going to end up doing a few genderbent characters. My partner is also very insisting with her love for Game of Thrones, so, that is definitely happening too. My inner scientist also is very anxious to express my childhood nerdy crush on Dana Scully by cosplaying her, and Grace Augustine from James Cameron’s Avatar is another tribute to my chosen trade.
Tell us an odd fact about yourself! I’m a Russian who doesn’t like vodka. How’s that for odd?
