We hope you like movies because this week has a lot of them for you to watch from the Fifth Element to Bond to the Princess Bride to VR this is everything to do (and watch) this week across Australia!

1. Queensland

Wednesday

EKKA starts in Brisbane today! It’s on for the next 10 days for you in Brisbane so plan out your showbags (like the Doctor Who one) and enjoy some carnival type fun. And after your EKKA you can head down to Netherworld to recoup as they are running their own carnival themed event for the entire duration of EKKA (complete with showbag)

Go back to the Start of the MCU as we hit the last month of the GOMA Marvel Exhibition with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk this Wednesday night in Brisbane. Grab some tickets online or at the box office that opens an hour prior to the screenings.

Thursday

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hits cinemas across Australia this Thursday! Why are we excited? Because it comes from the same director responsible for the Fifth Element! Check back on Thursday for our full review.

Looking for some Multi-Pass and Chicken to go with your Valerian this week? You already know its the 20th anniversary of The Fifth Element! So where can you see a 4K remastered screening thanks to Madman in Brisbane? From Thursday and for one Week only you can catch a session at the Palace Centro.

Friday

In the House continues this Friday with vintage Eddie Murphy in the only property from the 80’s not to be remade into a TV show or get a reboot yet – Beverly Hills Cop. Head to the Event Cinemas website to check for screenings and to get your ticket.

Love all things VR? Then in Brisbane this Friday til Sunday you can head to the Powerhouse for the first ever Australian Virtual Reality Film Festival. Sessions run for just short of an hour with there being multiple sessions across the weekend, find the one right for you and buy tickets online.

If you just wanted to stay in this weekend and have Foxtel we hope you like your movies shaken not stirred because Foxtel have a James Bond pop-up channel starting this Friday and running all weekend long with all 26 films back to back. From Connery to Craig no matter who your favourite Bond is, you get to watch them all this weekend.

Before there was Buffy, Bram Stoker was the original Vampire slayer and this Friday in Toowoomba you can catch a live performance at the Empire Theatre. Tickets are available online but there is only one performance so make sure you do not miss it.

Also in Vampires but back in Brisbane and also at GOMA. The original 1979 Wener Herzog Nosferatu the Vampyre is playing this Friday Night in a repeat screening. If you missed it last time at GOMA this might be your last chance.

And lastly, haven’t made it to see the 20th anniversary 4K edition of The Fifth Element yet? If you like seeing your movies at the New Farm Cinema in Brisbane you can catch the one and only session there this Friday.

Saturday

Looking for some gaming on your Saturday? Duckyy’s Gaming Lounge in Brisbane has 2 events you help you waste your weekend away with an OPL viewing party where you can win some sweet Riot games supplied swag OR if you are up to it they are also having a 12 hour lock in gaming marathon. If you missed Iron Man on Wednesday you can always catch Iron Man 2 and Thor on Sunday at Brisbane‘s GOMA before or after you visit the Marvel Exhibition again.
Grab some tickets online or at the box office that opens an hour prior to the screenings.

And Sunday is your last chance to see the 20th anniversary 4K edition of The Fifth Element on the big screen (unless you go to the Palace Centro before Thursday) with 2 more sessions at Hoys Stafford and Sunnybank. Seriously, this is it for watching it on the big screen in Brisbane until the 40th anniversary edition in 30K with direct cerebral link.

2. New South Wales & ACT

We mentioned this last week but if you are after something for your Wednesday night don’t forget that the International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes is on until the 8th of October at the Powerhouse. Why are we mentioning it again? Because it’s one of the many events on this week in conjunction with the Sydney Science Festival starting on Thursday.

LEGO! Ok there is a lot to be excited about this week… If you are in Canberra then from Friday until Sunday then you can get to Brick Expo! With a range of LEGO displays + vendors for picking up those hard to find pieces or sets you are bound to find what you are looking for. Just make sure you book ahead.

Saturday

Ain’t no Party like a Star Wars Party and this Saturday at the Spawn Point Bar in Sydney you can get your Wookie on while you enjoy some Blue Milk. So dust off your best robes on Saturday and be the Last Jedi standing.

If you need a massive dose of Anime for your Saturday then Studio Ghibli Party at the Hudson Ballroom is what you need. You can pickup tickets now for this Studio Ghibli themed party this weekend in Sydney.

Sunday

Meanwhile, in Melbourne. For lovers of movies such as Labyrinth and the Princess Bride may want to drag out their best Goblin King or Dread Pirate Roberts outfit for the Goblin Voyage. A 4 hour Masquerades/boat party that departs Docklands this Saturday and if you are quick, you can still pickup tickets.

Also on Saturday night and running until Sunday at the Pixel Bar in Melbourne for eSports fans, you can watch the DOTA2 International as it is live streamed from Seattle. Or just enjoy some board games until the matches heat up.
