By the Power of Greyskull there is a lot on this weekend! Indie Comics, Gaming, Space and Jack Burton means you aren’t going to be short on stuff to do!

1. Queensland

Wednesday

LARP Brisbane is giving you another chance to rain down vengeance on your enemies (with Foam weaponry) on Wednesday night with another new and returning player night. Hire your gear or bring your own, but check what is legal to use before you bring that LoTR broadsword you picked up last Supanova.

Hyped by the new Thor Ragnarok trailer? In Brisbane? Get to GOMA for their MCU movies as part of their awesome Marvel Exhibition. This Wednesday you can catch Thor and Thor: The Dark World, grab some tickets online or at the box office that opens an hour prior to the screenings.

Thursday

In Cinemas across the country it’s going to be hard to choose between A Monster Calls with Rogue One’s Felicity Jones and Sigourney Weaver about a boy who summons a 40 foot tall tree monster from Jurassic World director -OR- the 3rd Planet of the Apes film, War for the Planet of the Apes when they both hit cinemas this Thursday.

Want to meet some more Brisbane based indie game developers (including some future Creator Spotlight creators) Netherworld is continuing from their developer night last week with featuring local game makers for Think of the Children and Flick Heroes to name just a few. It’s this Thursday night.

Friday

If you enjoy camping and medieval reenactment and find yourself near Rockhampton this weekend then are already probably going to Carnival Historica 2017. Starting this Friday and running until Monday the camping in costume event is open to members of the public, reenactment groups and fantasy creators covering all time periods from the Dark Ages to Steampunk (though if you are planning to camp don’t forget to book your campsite).

In Brisbane? Didn’t get along to Ashcan Comic’s Indie Comic Book Art Exhibition? Friday is your last chance with over 200 works from 33 different Brisbane Comic Artists (including this week’s Creator Spotlight Sodaville Comics) wrapping up with a panel from some of the featured creators.

The Fox & Hounds on Mount Tamborine near the Gold Coast this Friday is having a special murder mystery style dinner, Game of Crowns. While we dont expect this to be red wedding levels of murder there is definitely levels of corruption and black mail planned. Call the Fox & Hounds to reserve your plate.

In the House returns for its new season across the country and invites you to follow the white rabbit for a screening of The Matrix this Friday night. Tickets are available in participating Event Cinemas so jump onto the official page to find the nearest screening.

Also on Friday for Disney fanatics, The sequel to the Disney movie the Descendants (the one about the kids of famous Disney villains) is airing on the Disney channel through Foxtel. Don’t worry if you don’t know what we are talking about, but for those who do cancel your plans.

Happy International Chicken Wing Day everybody! If you are wondering what to have for lunch (or breakfast, or dinner) today maybe look up your favourite Wing based food truck or eatery and stop in for some finger licking goodness.

Following on from Mint Condition last night you can keep the Indie Comic train rolling by stopping at ComicStreet on the Queen St mall in Brisbane on Saturday. Dozens of local comic creators (including Sodaville Comics) will be there for you to discover your new favourite independent comic!

If you have already tried turning it off and turning it back on again then in Brisbane Little Clive are following up their Black Books Trivia Night with IT Crowd Trivia! Booking is a must if you want to get a table with places limited. Though you will need to bring your own spray bottle if you get a hot ear.

Sunday

If you didn’t get to the Brisbane GOMA MCU movie sessions on Wednesday then on Sunday watch Captain America and the Winter Solider (you can see Civil War next Sunday). Grab your tickets online or at the box office that opens an hour prior to the screenings.

Don’t have enough reasons to wear your Harry Potter school robes? Netherworld on Sunday is fixing that with a birthday party for Harry Potter turning 37! So if you are looking for a chill way to spend your Sunday celebrating a friends birthday in Brisbane, check the event page for more details!

If you are a Trekkie in Sydney‘s western suburbs you can get to MedTrek this weekend. Starting Friday and running until Sunday, this is the 6th MedTrek Star Trek convention which is completely safe for any red shirts to attend.

GammaCon is just a week away but you can get in the groove this Friday at the Reload Bar in Canberra with Nerd Trivia. A gauntlet has been thrown down with all areas of Pop Culture up for grabs from TV to comics to movies and beyond.

SPAAAAAACE! If that got your attention then you might be interested to know Neil deGrasse Tyson is touring Australia and New Zealand and this Saturday will be at Sydney‘s ICC. You can pick-up tickets from the official tour site.

Also on Saturday and kicking on until Sunday the University of Wollongong Gaming Association is putting on its GameFest again! If you haven’t been before it’s halfway between a con and an all-night LAN party with the event running from noon until noon the next day. For more details check the full site!

And further west of Sydney in Katoomba you can head to the one day only tabletop, card and board (+ video) gaming event Ettin Con as it runs for another year. It’s on this Saturday.

UPDATE – If you are on the North Coast near Coffs Harbor Nexus Con is on this weekend at the local showgrounds. Never been to Nexus Con? It has a ton of guests so maybe you should!

Sunday

Have you heard about Sydney Gaymers? If not you may not know about their Sunday SideQuest this weekend as they take over the Hollywood Hotel. Hosted by local drag queens with GoldenEye on N64, Super Smash Bros for the GameCube and Gaming trivia to win some sweet prizes, if you are struggling to find a group of gamers this may be your cup of long island ice tea.

Head to Bartronica in Melbourne to get your 007 on with a Nintendo 64 Goldeneye Tournament. Check the rules to make sure you don’t get disqualified (no Golden Gun seems a bit harsh) and be eligible to win the Wednesday night tournament prize!

Also in Melbourne Island Somewhere continue their streak of awesome Trivia nights with Buffy the Vampire Slayer trivia. We don’t want to say it’s all going to be Whedon based but maybe just bone up on your Kristy Swanson knowledge, just in case.

Lismore Superhero cosplayers (or non-cosplayers who are actually superheroes) can join the Miles Wireman Superhero Xmas Party in July which is a fundraising event for a young member of the Wireman family who has been diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. This fundraiser is to help with the medical as well as giving you an excuse to wear out your best cape this Saturday night.
