Only revealed hours ago after the Wimbledon Men’s Final we now know who the new Doctor Who is, and it is Jodie Whittaker.
13th Doctor (14th really with John Hurt’s War Doctor) is the first female Doctor (but not the show’s first female lead or Time Lord) to appear in the show’s title role. Some may be familiar with the English actress appearing opposite David Tennant as the mother in Broadchurch, but she has also appeared in movies such as Attack the Block and a number of other English TV shows & movies.
The official announcement was made less than 8 hours ago and reactions have been mixed but we will have to wait to see the delivery, as not only are we getting a new Doctor but a new Showrunner, Chris Chibnall (who created Broadchurch) with Stephen Moffat stepping down.
We most likely wont get a taste of what this new Doctor is like until next year with the first appearance likely to be right after the current Doctor’s regeneration which has historically been the first appearance and cliffhanger for the next season.
You can watch the full announcement video below but clearly all mixed reactions are for one reason, still not ginger:
Peter Capaldi’s run as the Doctor is expected to end with this years Christmas special which will air on Boxing Day this year via ABC and iView.
