Looking for something to do this week? No matter where you are across the country we know you need to get your geek on and we have the full list of everything from Dodgeball with Bows and Arrows to eSports to Dinosaurs vs Robots for you to fill your weekend!

1. Queensland

Wednesday

If you are near Brisbane‘s GOMA on Wednesday why not hang about and see Iron Man and Iron Man 2 which are both playing in the GOMA Cinema. As with all the sessions, you can grab tickets online or at the GOMA box office an hour prior to the screening and both are playing back to back so you don’t need to choose which one to see.

Do you know what comes after just a jump to the left? On the Gold Coast on Wednesday night you can step to the right with a special screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at Mandala & Co. Pelvic thrusts and nachos? Yes, please.

How good is American Gods? If you have Amazon Prime and have watched the full season before needing to read the book (or maybe you already have) and now need someone to talk to about it Paranormal Book Club this week is all about Neil Gaiman’s excellent tome. It’s being hosted by Dymock’s Brisbane store and it’s on Wednesday night!

And lastly, if FIFA is Lyf then you will be at the Sporting Globe Chermside for the 4th XP Gaming FIFA ’17 Tournament this Wednesday on Brisbane‘s north side. Check the event page for full details as registration and entry fee is required before the start.

Thursday

Friday

Friday brings a mission from God with New Farm Cinemas in Brisbane bringing Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues in the Blues Brothers. This one session only screening is happening this Friday night so figure out where you are going to pick-up your suit, hat and Raybans now.

What do you get when you cross Dodgeball with the Hunger Games? Dodgebow. This Friday on Brisbane‘s southside you can find out more and join in this more energetic version of sports you may be familiar with (all while shooting your friends with a bow).

Also on the Gold Coast but this Friday. If you want to play games and help the local junior rugby club then good news with Timezone at Coolangatta being taken over by the Palm Beach Currumbin Alleygators. Ticket packages were offered up until the 1st of July but if you are interested, drop a message via the email on the event page and find out if there are still packages available.

Saturday

On Saturday, ESL Australia will be broadcasting Round 3 of the Starcraft II Blizzard Cup.  If the only thing better than watching is playing, seasoned Starcraft II players with a valid US Blizzard ID can find out how to register via ESL Australia’s event page.

Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Arrow and soon Black Lightning. DC might not have been doing so hot in the movies but they have been killing it with TV. If you have been keeping up with all of them then you might want to be at Brisbane‘s Vault Games on Saturday for DC TV Trivia. Book your tickets via Vault Games official website now.

Did you know that Brisbane has the current world #2 player for Space Invaders? This Saturday at Netherworld any players who score over 3000 will score a limited edition Space Invaders pin, and to help you ranked #2 Jon Tannahill will be on hand!

Sunday

Also in eSports but on Sunday, ESL Australia is also broadcasting round 3 of the Oceania Rocket League Open Cup. You can watch it on Twitch but PC and PS4 players with teams of at least 3 players can find out how to enter for the double elimination bracket.

If you are strong with the Force when it comes to Star Wars Destiny Brisbane‘s Magic Vault is holding its store championship this Sunday. You can buy your ticket online to enter but it is a must for anyone who wants to get into the Regionals.

And at GOMA in Brisbane continues playing the MCU on Sunday with The Incredible Hulk and Ant-Man playing back to back. Grab a ticket for either or both with tickets online or at the GOMA box office an hour prior to the screening.

Updated – Netherworld has just announced that there will be a Two-Bit Cinema club this Sunday with the doubleheader of Total Recall and Johnny Mnemonic. So if you love talking dolphins and classic Arnie you could find yourself in good company in Brisbane.

2. New South Wales & ACT

Wednesday

Already kicking off on Monday, Wednesday continues the 2017 Comic Conversation across Sydney Libraries with over 50 comic related events running until Sunday. Panels, Drawing, Cosplay are just some of the things to mention happening every day until Sunday this week!

The Spawn Point may have been around for a while now but Wednesday they are having their first ever Trivia Night in Sydney. Sign up is at 6 pm and team sizes are limited to 5, but if you think you are all knowing across all of Geekdom then try and get your name on the leaderboard as Trivia Night will be running all year with prizes for the end of year winner.

Bob’s Burger Lovers will just have to settle for Burritos on Wednesday with Bob’s Burger Trivia at the Beach Burrito in Canberra. Make sure you call ahead to book a table!

Thursday

If the 20th Anniversary 4K remastered edition of The Fifth Element at the Ritz Cinema last week was too far there are 2 more sessions this month at the Plaza Theatre in Laurieton on Thursday and Friday only. This is a limited print and session so make sure you buy a multipass and get to the screening!

Friday

If you are near Chatwood Library on Friday afternoon in Sydney, come check out the Comic Artists’ Market and meet some local creators like Queenie Chan. If you want to discover your latest new favourite comic (and are near Chatwood) check it out this Friday.

Saturday

Robots or Dinosaurs… OR Robots vs Dinosaurs! This Saturday the Australian Museum in Sydney will get a makeover thanks to local artists, DJs and Scientists to be an adult level playground for the one thing we have always wanted since Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla! Book ahead to save or buy tickets at the door this Saturday.

We already mentioned how much stuff was on for the Comic Conversation across Sydney Libraries this week but on Saturday we wanted to make a special call out for the Ashfield Libraries Artist Alley. Meet even more local creators, get some books and get them signed with guests such as previous Creator Spotlight artist Louie Joyce and a performance by Meri Amber.

Sunday

When you hear old school gamer do you think SNES or C64? If you picked door #2 you may be interested in the 1989 Arcade in Sydney‘s special guest on Sunday. Gregg Barnett made such games as Exploding Fist and Discworld series games for the Commodore 64 and he will be doing a Q&A at the Arcade on Sunday. If you love talking old games then you probably will want to get along.

3. Victoria & Tasmania

Wednesday

Looking forward to the upcoming Mario Kart 64 Tournament at Bartronica? If you are in Melbourne on Wednesday you can get some track time in with a Practice Tournament. Doors open at 3 pm to let you register for the 7:30 pm start, but make sure you check the rules as take the wrong shortcut and you could end up disqualified.

Thursday

Melbourne’s IMAX cinema is setting off a space theme this week in Melbourne with Interstellar playing on the 1570 IMAX Projector. You may have seen this movie before in cinemas but if you missed it in IMAX then this is that second chance you were looking for, without time travel, this Thursday.

And finally, if you are a master of the silver ball then Pinball Paradise in Melbourne has the 2nd week of their novice league this Thursday. It’s free entry with it only a per game cost, so if you have aspirations of becoming a world champ here is the place to begin.

Friday

On Friday night Melbourne‘s BETA Bar is all about Overwatch with a massive Overwatch party! Overwatch cosplay gets you cheaper entry + a chance to win some awesome prizes provided by Madman. You know you want to.

Saturday

SPAAAAAACE! If that got your attention then you might be interested to know Neil deGrasse Tyson is touring Australia and New Zealand and this Saturday will be at Melbourne‘s MCEC. You can pick-up tickets from the official tour site.

Sunday

Also at Melbourne‘s IMAX, if you are in a Christopher Nolan type of mood catch a double feature of one of the best Superhero movies ever made, The Dark Knight followed by The Dark Knight Rises. These are both playing on the 1570 IMAX projector so even if you have seen it a hundred times before you will want to make the effort. (FYI – you can also get tickets to just one but Sunday Double Feature sounds so much better)

Hobart Tekken 7 masters can head to Area-52 for the fortnightly Tekken Tournament. It’s all on PS4 with pads provided (but always feel free to take your lucky DualShock) so if your a 360 player, at least you have an excuse if you lose.

Friday

Do you love drawing robots and Kickstarters? Join artist Rohan Fraser for Robot Jam as he draws a big robot picture to celebrate the Kickstarter launch of his graphic novel Blokkan at Greenlight Comics in Adelaide on Friday.

If you are in Darwin and feel like some Bram Stoker on your Friday the Shake & Stir Theatre Co will be putting on a production of Dracula. The production is touring the country but you can catch it here on Friday.

Saturday

Missed out on the last Arduino U by the Perth Artifactory? Don’t worry they happen every fortnight and this week is your lucky night with newcomers welcome. If you have an Arduino you bought for that project but no idea how to start this is a great place for beginners to learn. Check out the requirements on the event page to tell you what you need to bring!

Looking for an excuse to Cosplay and Ice Skate? On Wednesday Perth‘s Xtreme Ice Arena is having a Superhero & Villian night. Sure it might be aimed at younger audiences but you should go… because you’re Batman.
