This week it’s a little School Holiday’ish with events going on around the country but we did our best to also find you stuff for people tall enough to ride most rollercoasters too! From the Australian Drone Racing Nationals to massive Human vs Zombie Nerf Wars this is what is happening around the country this weekend!

1. Queensland

Wednesday

Brisbane‘s GOMA it still playing the complete MCU with Captain America: Civil War Wednesday night. As with all the sessions you can grab tickets online or at the GOMA box office an hour prior to the screening.

On Wednesday and a week early in Brisbane, you can catch some limited previews of Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver at Event Cinemas before it is released next week. You can expect our full review for it next Thursday when it releases officially.

Also in cinemas but carrying on from last week, Wednesday is probably your last chance to see Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale. If there is a cinema near you still playing it tonight should be the last sessions.

Alternatively, if you are looking to stay in and have been hanging out for the next season of The 100 it starts on Wednesday night on Foxtel.

Thursday

This Thursday there is plenty of awesome hitting cinemas across Australia with Spider-Man Homecoming! We are super psyched for this and for Spidey to be part of the MCU ever since Captain America: Civil War, check back with us on Thursday to see our non-spoilery review.

Friday

Happy World Chocolate Day!!! We don’t actually have any big events to mention to go with this but we thought you may have just wanted an excuse to enjoy some Cadbury.

Fan of everything Medieval? Then you are probably already going to the Abbey Medieval Festival on the Sunshine Coast. It starts on Friday and runs until Sunday so you can go for a day or get a spot and camp for the weekend! Also, Friday has Jousting!

If you missed out on the GOMA MCU trivia you can still dominate at Gt’s Cafe Bistro also in Brisbane as they put on their Marvel Trivia Night this Friday. Teams can be up to 6 people per table so if you want to win, booking is essential.

For anyone who needs a helping of ‘Dude’ to get them through Friday night… you can catch The Big Lebowski as it plays at the New Farm Cinema OR if you prefer your Dude to be accompanied by Cowabunga then the original pre-Michael Bay Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the Metro Arts both in Brisbane, might be for you.

And if you don’t want to head out this weekend and prefer to find something indoors Foxtel is running a Hobbit/Lord of the Rings Pop-up channel starting on Friday through to Monday. Much like other pop-up channels expect all the movies to be run back to back in a loop the whole weekend, but considering the runtime for these films, we don’t think you will get more than one chance per day to watch your favourite.

Lastly, if you think that true vampire hunters use whips then you will be happy to know the Netflix Castlevania series kicks off this Friday. This 4 episode series definitely has more of a Anime than Nintendo feel about it but with Warren Ellis involved, we are completely looking forward to it.

Saturday

First up on the Gold Coast, the Australian Drone Nationals is taking place on Saturday and Sunday. While not really the place to start this is the biggest competition domestically on the Drone Racing calendar. It’s a free event with the qualifiers happening Saturday before the finals on Sunday (and it’s sponsored by the Australian Army so if you want to check out what they are doing in drones you can too). For full details head to the Drone Nationals website.

If you have kids and are still riding the Spider-Man Homecoming hype train this week you might be interested in UNIQLO’s Broadbeach store having Marvel cosplayers to promote their Marvel line of clothing (in conjunction with the MCU exhibit at GOMA). Take a picture and hashtag it #UNIQLOxMarvel to end up with a printed Polaroid on the day. If you are still on the Gold Coast and need a new Spidey tee, seems like a good excuse.

Also, this one is strictly for (8+) kids but if you have munchkins who are into Minecraft and you need to unload them for the evening while you get your Spidey on then the Building Block Studio on Brisbane‘s northside is having a Minecraft Night. You can find out more details on the event page or by contacting Building Block Studios directly.

Sunday

Got some holes in your collection of Marvel Comics? Junkee Comics is helping out GOMA Brisbane (who are hosting the MCU Exhibit currently) with a Marvel Comics Swap Meet on Sunday. There are some limits and conditions so check out the Facebook event for the full details before getting along.

And finally, Netherworld continues it’s Two-Bit Cinema hosting streak with the alien double feature of Howard the Duck + Mac & Me. If you aren’t getting enough Howard the Duck action out of rewatching GoTG + GoTG 2 then you may want to get to this screening in Brisbane.

2. New South Wales & ACT

Wednesday

Starting Wednesday and running until the 16th of July the Microsoft Flagship Store in Sydney will be all about Forza. These school holiday-centric events are all about the new Forza Horizon 3 Hot Wheels Expansion Pack on Xbox One, so if you have kids seems like a pretty good excuse for you to try out the new tracks… I mean take the kids to try out the new tracks. You can find more out about the kid-related events via the official site.

On Wednesday and a week early in Sydney, you can catch some limited previews of Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver at Event Cinemas before it is released next week. You can expect our full review for it next Thursday when it releases officially.

Also in cinemas but carrying on from last week, Wednesday is probably your last chance to see Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale. If there is a cinema near you still playing it tonight should be the last sessions.

Saturday

ZedTown movies from Melbourne to Sydney this weekend! If you don’t know what this massively awesome HvZ Nerf War event is you should check out our Creator Spotlight with one of the Braaaaaains behind the scenes! You can also still go grab some tickets but make sure you check the FAQ so you know what you need!

As this season of Doctor Who has drawn to a close, you can celebrate the final run of the current Doctor with the Doctor Who Club of Australia at their Annual Trivia Night this Saturday in Sydney. You can get tickets beforehand (or at the door if not sold out) but always best to coordinate with friends and book a table so you can also coordinate your Doctor Who themed cosplay.

Also on Saturday my Glip Glops you can get Shwifty at the Hudson Ballroom in Sydney as they have a Rick & Morty House Party! You can pick-up tickets here and find out more about the event… sadly there is no mention of Roy or Roy 2 being available to play on the night.

Sunday

If you are in Sydney and a fan of the Pre-Michael Bay Ninja Turtles films the 1989 Arcade will kick off its first ever Alan Smithee’s Cult Film Club with the 1990 title. Add to that having the Ninja Turtles arcade set to free play and pizza all night, if you aren’t spending your Sunday night here then we don’t know what you are doing with your life.

3. Victoria & Tasmania

Wednesday

Alternatively, if you are looking to stay in and have been hanging out for the next season of The 100 it starts on Wednesday night on Foxtel.

Also on Thursday if you think you are in a league of your own when it comes to Pinball the Melbourne Silverball League is having its July Pinball Tournament with all players scores adding to their world wide ranking. If you think you are good enough to go pro, this is just one step into a larger world.

Saturday

Saturday is a good day to be into Model Trains in Melbourne with M.C. Model Railways & Collectables having a 2-day exhibition open to the public. If you want to get into this or just want to re-enact the train scene from Ant-Man you should go check it out.

Also on Saturday, but only a few sessions, you can catch Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver ahead of its release next week. We would tell you about the special session in Melbourne next week that Edgar Wright will be introducing personally but it sold out minutes after being announced today. You can expect our review next Thursday when it is officially released.

Sunday

If you are in Launceston and have always wondered what you could do to make Harry Potter even better then we have two words for you, Pancake Breakfast. Yes, the Stories Bookshop is having an all day Harry Potter event and kicking things off with a Pancake Breakfast because everyone knows that’s what Wizards eat!

4. South Australia & Northern Territory

It doesn’t matter if you are an Average Joe or a Purple Cobra with the Level Up Gaming Bar in Perth holding an Epic Dodgeball match. Sixteen teams will go head to head for the coveted Dodgeball Cup (no wrenches allowed).

Oh, and we know we said ‘lastly’ but one more thing in Perth on Friday. The Xtreme Ice Arena is doing a special thing where you can build a snowman. We know it’s not really Pop Culture related (unless you are SUPER into that Disney Frozen song & want to go do it in cosplay… Because you definitely should) but how often do you get to build a snowman in Perth!

Saturday

Did you miss the last Nexus Toy Fair in Perth? Don’t worry it’s on again Saturday! So if you are looking for a Lazerbeak to go with your Ravage or just looking for something to fill your Saturday, get along to it!

Also on Saturday, if you are touring the national Harry Potter Trivia night circuit hustling muggles with your superior knowledge of all things Gryffindor then on Saturday night in Perth there is another chance for you to dominate. Booking ahead is a must with only limited seats but there are some prizes on offer too.

Sunday

Everyone has their favourite Bond, for example, we think there are those who think it’s Sean Connery and those who are wrong. But if you are in the George Lazenby category and can get to Perth‘s Luna Leederville cinemas, you can watch Her Majesty’s Secret Service with 007 himself. Tickets are limited for the film, Q&A sessions + an autograph session, but how often will you get this chance?

Heading out or catching up? Did we miss anything? As always tell us in the comments below or maybe drop us a line
