Overnight we got our first taste of some in-game footage for the upcoming Destiny 2 release but that is second to the bombshell that Destiny 2 will be heading to Blizzards Battle.net.
This is big news for the Activision game and also for such a massive game to be supported for online gameplay through Blizzard who are well versed in MMO hosting for global use with World of Warcraft. In the official statement Blizzard have said their scope with supporting 3rd party games only extends to Destiny 2 but they have not ruled out any future partnerships with hosting other Activision titles.
With now just under a month until E3 kicks off we expect to hear more about this, as well as if this means Destiny 2 will not support Xbox Play Anywhere. There is a lot to think about here, and the ability to purchase the game using Blizzard balance does suggest Blizzard may have aspirations to be a competitor to Steam.
For now, let’s just enjoy this first taste of gameplay that dropped overnight.
Destiny 2 is scheduled for worldwide release across PC, PS4 and Xbox One on September 8 this year.
