Looking for something to do? We have some big events coming up next week but it doesn’t mean you won’t find anything to do this one. From Game of Thrones to Drone Racing to John Wick 2 tickets, we got you covered.

1. Queensland

Wednesday

Can’t believe how Riverdale ended last week? Binge watched the entire season last weekend and just need to get it out there? The Beach Burrito in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley is holding a Riverdale themed Trivia night on Wednesday night! Sorry! This is now a booked out event!

If you are looking for an excuse to wear your best dress cape Brisbane‘s Royal Exchange in Toowong is hold their annual Superhero Party. Just dress as your favourite Superhero (or Supervillain) to kick back and enjoy some Beer pong.

For anyone who knows what LARPing is, and for some people who don’t Heroes Odyssey Brisbane is holding an event at Riverlakes Golf Course. You can bring your own weapons but maybe check the event for what is legal.

Thursday

Hitting cinemas across the country first is, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. While this came out last week overseas and has been getting killed by GoTG2, we still want to check out this Guy Richie flick.

If you prefer more Keanu in your movies then the long-delayed (in Australia) John Wick 2 is also out (we saw it last night). If you are quick you can also win 1 of 5 double passes we are giving away but competition ends today!

Also in cinemas, but for Brisbane, if you need some Anime on the big screen, Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry will be playing at the Myer Centre Event Cinemas until the 24th.

And lastly, in cinema, the Australian made Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child is released. You may have caught a preview of this film in the last few weeks but if not the locally made Sci-Fi epic starts Thursday.

If you have been binge watching Twin Peaks before it returns next week on Stan Australia then the Black Bear Lodge is running a Twin Peaks Trivia Night in Brisbane‘s Fortitude Valley. Tickets are super limited, so if you are interested don’t delay.

Friday

If you didn’t get enough Rick & Morty themed parties in Brisbane last week then this week Faith Nightclub is having a Rick & Morty Dance Party. Come for the Szechuan Sauce, stay for the music!

Still looking for Trivia but prefer it a bit more Disney themed? The Griffith Uni’s Gold Coast Uni Bar is having a Disney Trivia Night. Open to both students and not, there are even prizes for the best-dressed team. There is a cut off so make sure you get your tickets ahead of time if you want to attend.

Need some like-minded folk to talk about comics? The Brisbane Monthly Comic Meetup is happening at the Brisbane Square Library. If you want to talk anything Pop Culture or maybe play some trivia to score some prizes, this might be your scene.

Saturday morning is a good day for StarCraft II e-Sports players with ESL Australia hosting round 16 of the ANZ StarCraft World Championship Series. The top two players from this competition are not only competing for a share in the $10,000 AUD prize pool but also to qualify for the WCS Seed.

For anyone who has wanted to kick their cosplay up a notch, Part Time Hero Props will be part of a live build day at Comic Empire in Brisbane‘s Stones Corner. If you wanted to see how to work with EVA or 3D printed parts and ask some questions then they will be there most of Saturday!

If you are feeling crafty yourself and want to put those hours painting Warhammer figures to good use Irresistible Force on Brisbane‘s south side is holding a 24 hour miniatures painting competition. Competition details are on the event but no prep will be done before hand so stock up on Red Bull and sugar.

Also in Cosplay for anyone in Townsville, Molly Malone’s Irish Pub is the venue for the first ever Cosplay Til Dawn. With door prizes and a raffle donated by some of the best local Pop Culture stores, Cosplay isn’t required but it is encouraged.

If watching Horror movies at a remote campsite sounds like a SUPER good idea to you then also in Brisbane Horror Movie Camp Out is for you. This touring screening is being held on the grounds of a Mount Cotton winery as an 18+ event. It is a campout but for a little extra you can even get a pre-setup tent if you like roughing it but have your limits.

Otherwise, if horror movies aren’t your thing then in Brisbane‘s old Boggo Road Jail there is a screening of Shawshank Redemption on Saturday night. There is also a walk-through of the jail’s history to get you in the mood.

Sunday

First up, while not strictly Pop Culture related the RSPCA Million Paws Walk is on across the country. So if you wanted an excuse to do that Fallout 4/Dogmeat or Sabrina the Teenage Witch Cosplay you have always dreamed of today is your day.

If you enjoy kicking back on a Sunday with some tabletop the Magic Vault in Brisbane are hosting a Star Wars Destiny Casual Tournament and a Magic the Gathering Amonkhet Game Day. The weather suggests it might rain so seems like a good excuse to stay in.

Also on Sunday, Two-Bit Cinema club is at it again in Brisbane‘s Netherworld with a double feature of Wargames and Hackers. If you want to know how the world thought all computer hacking worked in the 1980’s and 90’s then consider this a crash course.

2. New South Wales & ACT

Wednesday

The Hudson Ballroom is leading off with Nolan’s Batman Trilogy themed Trivia Night in Sydney. Cosplay is encouraged with prizes to be won for the team who beats the rest, make sure you register to guarantee a table for your team.

If you are in Newcastle and thinking about what it takes to join the 501st Stormtrooper legion then Empire Coffee are hosting an information night. You can get along and learn more about the 501st, what it takes to join and what they do (hint, raise money for charities!).

Also on Friday but back in Sydney, if you need some tabletop action Good Games Townhall are hosting their weekly Star Wars Destiny match night. With 3 rounds and prizes awarded for top places, seems like a good use of your Friday night.

If you have been itching to see some drone racing the SMRC Drone Nationals Qualifier is happening in Sydney‘s West. If you want to come and watch or if you are a budding pilot who wants to compete you might want to check it out.

Two-Up talk series takes 2 unrelated topics and throws them together and adds wine. If you feel like learning a little something this weeks session in Sydney is Malaria and Comic Books (and if not it’s being held in a wine bar)

And finally also in Sydney, for the ladies who love comics, Kings Comics is hosting their monthly Queens of Kings meetup. You can go to meet others or just to get that sweet sweet discount on the book of the month.

3. Victoria & Tasmania

Wednesday

To tie into the release of Injustice 2 on Wednesday, Area 52 in Hobart are holding a release date tournament. This will be a PS4 based event where dual shock 4 controllers are provided but you can feel free to BYO.

If you need to get your game on in Melbourne Bartronica is holding their bi-annual Smash Bros. Tournament on Gamecube. Winning not only gets you a $100 EB Voucher but your name engraved on the trophy for future generations to wonder what a Gamecube was.

Thursday

If you like a chill tabletop Sunday in Hobart you can play a little Pokemon Casual League or for something a little more competitive the X-Wing Pirate Tournament both at Area 52. Sadly you can’t play in both at the same time.

Otherwise, if you prefer some Anime on your Sunday the Animaga Maid Cafe will be part of the Box Hill Japanese Festival in Melbourne. No need to book, just walk right in.

4. South Australia & Northern Territory

Wednesday

As somewhat of a staple of your Wednesday night in Adelaide first up is Greenlight Comics D&D Adventurers League. Don’t worry if you have never played before as new players are welcome, all you need bring is your sense of adventure.

Thursday

Register beforehand or on the day but make sure you are on time for the 11:30 am kickoff, even if you don’t win the tournament there is also door prizes that you might walk away with.

Alternatively if a chill Sunday is not your thing also in Adelaide it is the start of the Rockbellas Roller Derby season. With a double header of two back to back matches, this should fill your action quota to end your weekend.

Lastly, if you want to demonstrate your exceptional knowledge of all things Harry Potter and Game of Thrones the Adelaide‘s Astor Bar is hosting a trivia night on Sunday. There is a $500 first prize and it’s all for the Craniofacial Charity!

5. Western Australia

Wednesday

If you feel the biggest problem with Trivia is the lack of Pirates the Pirate Bar is having a Trivia night in Perth. It’s open for all ages with no pre-registration required and the jackpot is ripe for you to take home some booty.

If you love supporting locally made games then PlayUp Perth is having another meet to let you get a hands on all the best Perth made indie games. This 18+ event is licensed and open til late if you feel the need to play all night long with tickets available now.

Also in gaming and to celebrate the release of Injustice 2 this week, on Friday in Perth the Respawn barcade is holding a DC Universe Party. Not only will you be able to play in their Tournament but if you show up in Cosplay there are discounts to be had.
